Brown and Associates has built its unrivalled reputation by standing up for accident victims’ rights and ensuring they receive the support, care, and compensation they deserve. Read on to learn about how our championship history guides our law practice today, as well as the award-winning team we’ve built to help our clients attain justice.

Three Generations of Championship History

The Brown family legacy in Alberta begins with Buster Brown, James’ father. Between 1925 and 1932, the elder Brown dominated track and field at the provincial, national, and international levels. He reached the pinnacle of his career by winning gold at the 1930 British Empire Games (now Commonwealth Games) in the 440-yard relay, setting a Canadian record in the process. Buster Brown also enjoyed a successful hockey career, winning multiple championships with the Edmonton Superiors (including an undefeated European tour in 1933). Buster Brown was inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in 1980.

It came as a surprise to nobody when James H. Brown showed much of the same athletic ability. By 1963, he had become a standout centre playing Juvenile AAA hockey for Edmonton’s Southside Athletic Club. Despite being underage at the time, he was called up by the major junior Edmonton Oil Kings to shore up their roster for the Memorial Cup tournament. Brown helped the team capture their very first Memorial Cup at home in Edmonton, impressing Oil Kings’ coaches and management enough to earn a permanent spot on the team. However, his promising career came to a tragic end at age 19, when a head-on collision with a drunk driver left him with a broken neck.

Following in his father and grandfather’s footsteps, Trent Brown showed his family’s trademark speed and athletic ability as a standout defensive back for the University of Alberta Golden Bears. After an accomplished college career, Brown signed with the then-Edmonton Eskimos in 1991, making his presence known with the same fast, hard-hitting style that brought him success in university. His intensity and commitment to his team earned him four All-Star team selections and a 1993 Grey Cup championship. However, Brown’s hard-hitting style came at a price, with concussions and a skull fracture ultimately forcing his retirement in 1999.
