Colby Bidwell

Colby obtained his Juris Doctor in 2024 from the University of Alberta Faculty of Law. While in law school, Colby volunteered with student legal services in their criminal law division and in their legal education and reform project. He particularly enjoyed his time volunteering at the Hope Mission providing legal information to Edmonton’s homeless. Colby received the Bereskin and Parr Prize in Intellectual Law in 2023.

Before law school, Colby was a teacher in programs for disabled students. During his time as a teacher, he worked with disabled and injured students and their families. As a teacher, Colby often saw the ways that disability and organic brain injury impacted the lives and families of his students. His decision to become a lawyer and article with James H. Brown and associates was heavily influenced by his desire to see better outcomes for the injured and disabled.

Colby applies the empathy and understanding that he learned on the front lines of working with injured students to his relationships with his clients. He believes that injury has a deeply personal impact and that injured people each face unique circumstances and experience loss differently. Colby is dedicated to pursuing fair compensation for people who have experienced injury. Colby is committed to engaging with his client’s circumstances and resolutely advocating for their interests while considering their story, goals, and path to recovery.

When Colby is away from the office, he enjoys Brazilian Jui Jitsu and working with his hands. Colby enjoys leather and wood working. He likes hobbies that take precision, patience, and perseverance.

When I work with clients, I want to make sure that I understand their experience. It’s important to me to act as a resource and advocate in a difficult and challenging time. I want to use my knowledge and training to empower my clients, help them to understand their options, and guide them towards the best solutions available. I know how deep the impact of injury can be; I understand the trust clients place in me every single day. I am committed to honouring that trust and achieving the best possible result.  I know that the legal system can be intimidating and overwhelming, I am dedicated to protecting the interests of clients and navigating their claims with their story in mind. I want my clients to know that they can focus on their recovery without having to worry about their legal claim.
