Fort McMurray Explosion Class Action against ATCO Gas and Pipeline Ltd.
On May 17, 2016, an explosion occurred in the Dickinsfield neighbourhood of Fort McMurray. The explosion occurred after ATCO Gas and Pipeline Ltd. (ATCO) restored natural gas service to the area, following the Fort McMurray wildfires.
A Statement of Claim has been filed by James H. Brown and Associates, in conjunction with Higgerty Law in Calgary, alleging that the explosion was caused by ATCO when they restored natural gas service.
The Amended Statement of Claim is appended to this page.
UPDATE
On May 23, 2019, a Certification Order was granted by the Court. The Certification Order states that the proposed class action in the Statement of Claim is certified, and litigation can proceed as a class action. This is not a settlement or judgment on the merits of the case, rather an important procedural step in the litigation. There is no cost to being part of the Class. If you wish to opt-out, the Certification Order specifies how to do this, and when it must be done by. The Certification Order is appended to this page, as well as the Publication Notice.
